Master of Dental Hygiene (MDH) degree
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is proud to announce its new
Master of Dental Hygiene (MDH) degree. This non-traditional program of
post-professional study allows dental hygienists the opportunity to obtain a
Master of Dental Hygiene degree while continuing to work. The major focus of the
program is to prepare dental hygienists as educators and leaders in the dental
hygiene profession. Graduates may also be qualified to work in areas such as
public health, private-not-for-profit agencies, and oral health product
marketing and development. It is expected that this program will attract a wide
audience due to its unique characteristics. The distance learning web-mediated
design will allow students to earn a graduate degree from their area residence
while continuing to work. The flexible curricula design allows for full or
part-time enrollment and enables students to focus in their area of interest.
Students are only required to be on-campus one week each summer. With faculty
approval, field experience courses and practicum can be completed in the
students' state of residence. UTHSC is planning to enroll students in the MDH
program beginning August 2006. Interested individuals should contact Dr. Susan
Mansfield at smansfield@utmem.edu.
