Maine receives an "A " on dental sealants. The Pew Center of the States released a 50 state report card on states use of sealants, a low cost and effective preventive measure. It was one of only 2 states to receive the maximum number of points. The Report Card is here , the full report is here, and a nice "infographic" illustrating the importance of sealants is here. Dental disease has a significant impact on cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke, and complications of diabetes as well as being associated with low birth weight and pre term births. See below for a short video produced by MDAC on the need for oral health policies that recognize the role oral health plays in overall health, and the need for better access to oral health services.
