| Survey:Oral Health and Diabetes
WIN A $100 GIFT CERTIFICATE TO L.L.BEAN!
Medical Care Development is trying to learn more about provider and consumer awareness about the connection between diabetes and oral health. We are talking to oral health providers and people with diabetes to better understand behaviors and attitudes affecting the oral health of people with diabetes.
There is a brief survey for dental providers at www.mcd.org/TDES/ , (at the bottom of the page click on Diabetes & Oral Health Survey). At the end of the survey you can put your name in to win a $100 L.L. Bean Gift Certificate.
The survey will be open until July 14 and the prize drawing will be held on July 15.
During July there will be an on-line survey for people with diabetes, look for more information in the next WOM. |

| Maine Dental News
Dentists, hygienists, dental students, hopeful dental students, spouses, MDA Executive Director, assistants, family members -31 volunteers in all- came together on a gorgeous spring day to provide dental screenings and education for 382 participants, plus staff members, at the Special Olympics Event at the University of Maine in Orono. While some participants had to be cajoled into opening wide, others 'couldn't wait' for their turn. Anticipation of a goodie bag with oral health aids and a new t-shirt help to attract large numbers of athletes.

Infant Oral Health Care: A Survey of General Dentists, Pediatric Dentists, and Pediatricians in Virginia Only 12% of general dentists and 5% of pediatricians who responded to the survey recommend that an infant's first dental visit occur within the first year. General dentists and pediatric dentists who had trained more recently were more likely to recommend the 1-year dental visit than dentists who had been in practice longer. The authors conclude that both oral health professionals and non-oral-health professionals need additional education about infant oral health care.
